Johnstons of Elgin, a family owned company, has been weaving finest Scottish cashmere and woollen tweed at its mill in Elgin since 1797.
The wool that Johnstons of Elgin uses comes mainly from the fleece of the Cheviot sheep grazing in the North Highlands. Johnstons of Elgin has expertly blended this wool with finer merino wool from New Zealand to create the beautiful melange yarns which make up the Castle of Mey estate tweeds: the “Field” and “House” tweeds.
In lovat green and blue-grey hues, the tweeds perfectly reflect the ambience of the Castle of Mey and its wonderful coastal location, with hints of the pink “Albertine Rose”, grown in the Castle’s gardens, a favourite of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother. From these tweeds a range of hand crafted products has been exclusively developed for Mey Selections.
